Read Nehemiah 9:1-37

I remember the first time I heard about the “secret church.” It was a group of people who were hungry for the Word of God. They would meet for 8-12 hours at a time to listen, learn, and study the Bible. It was called “secret” because it was illegal. They could’t meet openly. Wouldn’t it be exciting to be a part of such a gathering, to be with people who truly wanted to be there and were willing to risk much for the opportunity! Unfortunately, most pastors are forced to watch the clock. We in America have grown complacent. We take our freedom to assemble and worship for granted.

Not so in ancient Israel. Did you catch that? One-fourth of the day spent reading the word. Another one-fourth of the day spent praying and worshipping. No matter how you reckon a “day,” that’s a lot longer than the 20-30 minutes most pastors get.

Does the preaching and teaching of the Word feed your deepest hunger? Let’s put aside the clocks and watches and worship our God in spirit and in truth. That’s the kind of worship He’s looking for.

One great way to weave worship into our daily lives is to fill it with music that helps focus our hearts on our great God.  Here is a Spotify playlist that has all the songs our worship team has led us through in the last month’s Sunday evening services to get you started. http://bit.ly/GBCPMThisMonth It’s updated weekly, so “follow” it to keep fresh worship music in your life.
