Read Joshua 2:2-3:24

40 years! It had been over 40 years since the crossing of the Red Sea.  The Israelites who wandered through the desert perhaps did not know much about Jericho. Yet, the Lord went before the Israelites and brought fear to those in Jericho.  Joshua 2:11 recounts the response of those in Jericho: “When we heard it, our hearts melted and no courage remained in any man any longer because of you; for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.”

Rahab was an enemy. But because of what she knew to be true, that the Living God of Israel would defeat their city, Rahab became an ally.  The God who knows time from beginning to end knew how Rahab would help and encourage those who came to spy out the land.

This same God knows what future trials that we will face in our lives.  He knows what illnesses, difficulty with children or marriage, persecution for our faith, and everything that lies ahead in our path.  The same God has gone before us and prepared those who will help, comfort, and encourage us so that everything will work for His glory and our good.  We can trust our future and the trials it will bring to the Living, Eternal God.

Prayer:

Father, You have gone before me today and I know You are the Faithful One who will go before me every day of my life. Please calm my fearful heart and help me to fully trust in You for each and every moment. Thank You for holding me in Your hand and providing me with all that I need through every trial.  Please grow my faith that I might do Your will in freedom from fear.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen
