Read Mark 6

Some days it seems that no matter how hard I try, nothing works out the way I had planned.  The receptionist never called back to set up an appointment.  The workmen were an hour late.  The store didn’t have the shoes I needed. On such days I feel overwhelmed, as if the whole world is against me.

I suppose the disciples felt the same way that night.  These were strong men, accustomed to rowing in less than ideal weather.  Now they were straining at the oars, trying to row against the wind.

I don’t want to waste time feeling overwhelmed.  I want to learn from their experience.  The very sea that they were straining to get through proved to be the conduit that brought Jesus to them.

Though the wind was against them, just as the world is against me, nothing could separate them from the Lord who loved them.  For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  (Romans 8:38-39)
