Read: Luke 14:15-24

My friend’s home had been transformed into a lovely wedding venue. In less than an hour, her only daughter would be married. I made my way to a seat in the foyer, just short of the living room, and at about the half-way mark. Imagine my surprise when my friend’s husband came to me. “Oh, no! There’s a seat saved for you up front.” My new seat was right behind the mother of the bride!

This passage sprang instantly to my mind. The greatest surprise was discovering how humbling it can be to be exalted! My position was based solely on my relationship with my friend. The decision to exalt me was hers, based on who she was.

We’ve been invited to a great banquet. Our invitation is based solely on our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. How exalting (and humbling) to even be invited! He hasn’t called us to come because of anything we have done, but because of Who He is. What will your answer be when He tells you that everything is ready? Will you find worthless excuses, or will you run to Him with abandon?

Pray:

Adoration: God is holy, mighty, gracious, and merciful. Spend time declaring your love for Him and expressing your thoughts of praise and worship.

Confession: Ask God to search your heart and reveal any areas of unconfessed sin. Acknowledge these to the Lord and thank Him for His forgiveness.

Thanksgiving: Express your thankfulness to God for the blessings He has given you. When we consider that we deserve punishment because of our sinfulness, and instead God gives to us His love and mercy, our only response should be one of thankfulness.

Supplication: Petition God for wisdom. Offer prayers for your activities for this day and any special concerns you might have. Intercede for your immediate family and other relatives regarding their spiritual, emotional, and physical needs.
