With the recent deacon ordination, my heart was moved to express my appreciation for these men.

When you’re so busy helping the needy, who will help run the affairs of the church? In Acts 6, the 12 apostles and early disciples faced this very problem. Acts 6:3 says “Therefore, brothers, select from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and wisdom, whom we can appoint to this duty.”

But is the role of deacon meant to be only to serve or to support those who serve?

Peter tells us in 1 Peter 4:10 that each of us has received a gift, and we should use it to serve one another, in order that in EVERYTHING God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.

In Galatians 6, Paul says that we we must work for the good of ALL. When should we do that? As we have the opportunity! We should serve ALL others every chance we get. That is how we reflect the love of God to others.

Be grateful for the serving hearts of our deacons, but don’t confuse serving as something that only deacons do.
