Read: Luke 14:25-35

I wish I was a planner. My husband wishes I was a planner.

I make a list for weekend trips to the grocery.  I jot down "to do" lists (from time to time) on Friday afternoons, for priority attention on Monday mornings.  But, real planners would label me:  "not a planner."

And I've been ok with my "not a planner" label ... until now.  Our passage of scripture essentially asks, "who sets out to build a tower (i.e.. a family, a ministry, any expression of obedience to Jesus) without planning ahead and counting the costs?"

What I love about Jesus is that He cuts to the heart of a matter. He knows that following Him requires sacrifice; and to truly sacrifice something, you have to plan ahead and count the cost of losing whatever you've sacrificed.  Jesus also knows that good leadership (and parenting) requires planning and counting costs. Our obedience to the Lord will manifest itself throughout our lives!

Embrace planning today. Embrace His sacrifice for you, and follow His example today!

Adoration: God is holy, mighty, gracious, and merciful. Spend time declaring your love for Him and expressing your thoughts of praise and worship.

Confession: Ask God to search your heart and reveal any areas of unconfessed sin. Acknowledge these to the Lord and thank Him for His forgiveness.

Thanksgiving: Express your thankfulness to God for the blessings He has given you. When we consider that we deserve punishment because of our sinfulness, and instead God gives to us His love and mercy, our only response should be one of thankfulness.

Supplication: Petition God for spiritual insight and understanding of His Word.  Ask Him to help you know what is His direction and purpose for your life.  Intercede for other believers, personal friends, those in ministry and those who are oppressed and in need. Offer prayers for your activities for this day and any special concerns you might have.
