Read Haggai 2:20-23

God spoke to His people - everyone from the governor's and priest's sons to the youngest of those who returned to Jerusalem from exile in Persia. His Spirit stirred a vision in each of their hearts, and each responded in work, hard work, on the temple.

As they worked, God continued to speak to His people. God provided insight on the future and set an expectation of significance for this time in history. The future held wars and strife among brothers; but, it also held significance for Zerubbabel, the political leader of God's people. "'I will make you like my signet ring, for I have chosen you,' declares the Lord Almighty." (v. 23)

Signet rings were dipped into hot wax or soft clay and used as a seal to "sign" legal and other important documents. If God chose Zerubbabel as a signet ring, He had big, BIG, history-altering plans for Zerubbabel, Haggai, and the remnant of His people.

As we consider the plans and course that God has set for our generation to run, He no doubt has big plans for us, too. In a recent article, Beth Moore shared the following -  "God foresaw this day and scheduled our births and our deaths within it. He entrusted us with the Gospel and the gifting to share it. Imagine the great cloud of witnesses in Hebrews 12:1 gathered in the unseen stadium to watch our generation run our race." Will our generation be faithful? Will we each be faithful to the call and expectations God has for us?
