Several months ago, a family made the news when they called the US Coast Guard for help after their young daughter became ill on a round- the- world sailing expedition. Parachuters and a navy frigate were sent to save the family from their broken down boat at an estimated cost of over $660,000. Many people were upset that so much money and effort were spent saving this family who, in their eyes, had possibly taken too many chances. Whether or not their choices were wise, these people were Americans, and our government deemed them worthy to be saved at any cost. Out of 316 million Americans, this one small family captured the attention and support of the world’s largest superpower. It must’ve been humbling!
How much more humbling should be the realization that our God - Who is far greater than any country’s military - deems each of us, out of 7 billion people on the planet, worthy of His attention! The Bible tells us that He would not forget even 5 sparrows (which aren’t worth much) and that we “...are of more value than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:7) Despite our bad decisions, our backsliding, and our oft disregard for God’s provision, He still offers us salvation individually.
This week, revel in the fact that the God of the universe knows you and has chosen you to receive His greatest gift!
Adoration: God is holy, mighty, gracious, and merciful. Spend time declaring your love for Him and expressing your thoughts of praise and worship.
Confession: Ask God to search your heart and reveal any areas of unconfessed sin. Acknowledge these to the Lord and thank Him for His forgiveness.
Thanksgiving: Express your thankfulness to God for the blessings He has given you. When we consider that we deserve punishment because of our sinfulness, and instead God gives to us His love and mercy, our only response should be one of thankfulness.
Supplication: Petition God for growth in your desire to know and please Him. Ask Him to give you a greater love and commitment to Him. Ask Him for the grace to glorify Him in your life. Intercede on behalf of your local church, other churches, evangelism and discipleship ministries and other concerns you may have. Offer prayers for your activities for this day and any special concerns you might have.
