Read John 6:44-45, 65,  1 John 4:9-10

Jessica was born and abandoned in India. She had no hope of finding a family for herself – no resources –  she was alone and helpless.  A couple who had two sons greatly desired to have a daughter. They spent countless hours completing paperwork and jumping through many legal hoops. The adoption took over a year to complete. The parents pursued Jessica, not because of her abilities or allure, but out of love.  There was great joy the day that Jessica finally arrived home to her new family.

Like Jessica, in my own flesh, I am not conditioned to love God. There is nothing lovely about me that I can offer that God should desire to choose me over all the other of billions of people in the world. But God loves me, deeply.  God jumped through all the legal hoops to save me – He demonstrated His love by sending Jesus to cover our sins so that we can be in relationship with Him. “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” 1 John 4:10

Like Jessica was helpless to find a family, I cannot pursue God and find Him on my own.  John 6:44 says “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him.”  The God of the Universe loves me, and He loves you. He draws us, not because of what we can do, but simply out of love.  He gave His Only Son out of love for us.  How can I not respond to so great a love?
