Read Jonah 1:1-2

I remember a time last year when I met a young man at work.  Within minutes of talking to him, I could tell that he was in a very difficult place, yet I could see that God was working in his life.  To my knowledge this man was not a believer, and I felt God urging me to reach out to him and encourage him with the gospel.  I was very busy at work, and at the time, I worried about how witnessing might come across in such a strange setting.  I didn’t share my faith with that young man that night, and I have regretted it ever since.

Most of us remember the story of Jonah from our earliest days in Sunday school.  In Jonah chapter 1 we see God call Jonah, and we see Jonah not only ignore Him, but actually turn and try to run away from God.  When I read this chapter, it reminded me of times when I have ignored God.  God speaks to us, we may not always hear or listen to Him, but as Christians we are called to respond to His voice.

I have asked God for forgiveness and have made an intentional effort to never let another opportunity pass when I feel God’s call so undeniably.  Fortunately, God is both loving and forgiving. He doesn’t ask us to be perfect, but he does ask us to seek Him, follow Him, and most importantly, listen to Him.
