Read: John 3:16
As I thought about our Pastor’s comments a few Sundays ago regarding our end of year giving, I began to think about how this relates to our new three-year strategic plan for the church, or what we call GBCAdvance. I thought about disciple, nurture, and advance and how directly giving relates to achieving our goal for the next three years; and considered the importance of properly funding all the areas of ministry here at the Church. I thought in my heart what a blessing it is to be able to give to support the many areas of ministry of the Church, and how our Church so graciously gives from the heart, and how God blesses me through me blessing others.
I was reminded of a story I once read. There was a father who loved his children, but they didn’t love him, and one after another they left their father’s house. Finally, the father had a son who reciprocated that love. This son honored, respected, and obeyed his father. The father was thrilled, but he still mourned over his other children who had rejected him. He then came up with a plan, a risky plan. “I will give up my beloved son and then make room in my house for my wayward children to return. Hopefully, they will realize my love for them and come back home.” You may certainly recognize this story told in the book of John.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
What a story of sacrificial giving to the greatest plan ever conceived.
Father, What a sacrificial gift that You gave for me. May I learn to fully appreciate that gift, which had to be made, to fulfill Your plan. May I understand in my own heart, the need for me to give sacrificially of my time, talents and possession so that Your plan for my life and for the Church, which is Your Church, can be fulfilled.
In Jesus’ name,
