Read: Psalm 84: 1-4

How often do we truly yearn, or long, for something?  In our society today we are constantly bombarded with advertisements that encourage us to focus on ourselves, or to compare ourselves to others. This often times leads us to long for material things - a new house, a new car, that next bonus, or even a new job.  We also find ourselves longing for health, healing, and restoration when we or our family members are sick or in difficult situations.

The psalmist writes about his deep desire to be closer to God. His soul faints, and his heart cries out for His presence. He appears envious of the birds that dwell near his altar.  What would our lives look like if we were that passionate about pursuing closeness with God? It is so easy to go through our daily lives moving from one thing to the next and focusing our attention on everything else except God.  Too often I find myself going days or even weeks at a time without stopping, praying, listening, and truly seeking God’s presence.  We have a merciful God who, through his son Jesus Christ, extended grace to each one of us, allowing us to be righteous and holy in His eyes, and be in close relationship with our Father.
God, I pray that you will help each one of us appreciate this wonderful gift, and help us to draw closer to you by pursuing your presence.

Adoration: God is holy, mighty, gracious, and merciful. Spend time declaring your love for Him and expressing your thoughts of praise and worship.

Confession: Ask God to search your heart and reveal any areas of unconfessed sin. Acknowledge these to the Lord and thank Him for His forgiveness.

Thanksgiving: Express your thankfulness to God for the blessings He has given you. When we consider that we deserve punishment because of our sinfulness, and instead God gives to us His love and mercy, our only response should be one of thankfulness.

Supplication: Petition God to help you be a faithful steward of your time, talents, possessions, and relationships.  Offer prayers concerning your activities for this day and any special concerns you have.  Intercede for your local, state, and national governments.  Pray for spiritual revival in the nation and offer prayers regarding any current events and concerns.
