Read John 3:16
John 3:16. We’ve all read it. Most of us know it from memory. For some of us, it was the first verse we ever learned. In fact, it’s probably one of the most well-known verses in the entire Bible. I’ve seen it on signs at sporting events, on posters and banners, and even etched into the walls of public restroom stalls. We see it so often, sometimes I think we start to recite it with our brains on automatic. Our mouths say the words, but our brains forget to take in the meaning. The end result is that it ceases to affect our hearts.
We tend to love on automatic, too. We go through the motions with our family and friends, and even with complete strangers. Our mouths say the words they need to hear, but our brains fail to take in their meaning. The end result is that our hearts are no longer moved into showing true love.
If we are going to love like Jesus, we must be intentional. We must go out of our way to love others, offering them genuine love from our hearts and not just our lips. Loving is more than simply telling someone that we love them. It’s holding a hand, offering an encouraging word, doing a difficult task, taking time out of our days, or even stopping by with a cheerful bouquet of flowers. Loving is doing, being, feeling, acting. Love is intentional. Love is a verb.
Will you love like Jesus?
