Ever felt like a Jonah? Ever felt that you just don’t know what to say or how to say it in a way that will speak to someone’s heart?

I have come up with a theory, based on the theology of a group of 3-year olds. If you want grass roots theology to tell someone about Jesus, all you need to do is ask a group of 3 and 4 year olds about Jesus. I found this out one Sunday morning by volunteering in the pre-school section of the nursery. Your eyes will be opened, and your heart will be truly blessed.

One 3-year old little boy asked me if I knew where Jesus lives, and when I answered, “Why yes, Jesus lives in heaven,” he promptly told me, in no uncertain terms, “Jesus lives in our hearts, and God lives in heaven because God is our heavenly father, and Jesus is our Lord and Savior.”  He advised me that he learned this from his teacher, Mr. Jim.

A little girl explained that sometimes Jesus lives behind the “time-out chair” when you have been bad, to make sure that you know what you did was wrong and why you have to sit in the time-out chair for thirty hours!  Jesus and your mommy still love you even when you are bad, if you tell them the truth, say you are sorry (and really mean it), and promise to try not to do it again. She also says that Jesus is a Super Spirit who can be everywhere, see everything, and hear everything so you don’t have to be afraid, even if you wake up and it is dark outside.

While they may be slightly off in some of the details, they still articulated the Holy Trinity and plan of salvation in 3-year old terms that anyone can understand.
