Read Luke 24:13-35
When my oldest child was five, he kept running up and down the stairs calling for me to hurry and come see. His ‘hurry and come see’ usually meant for me to come see his latest Lego construction, so I continued folding laundry, loading the dishwasher, etc., while all the time he kept calling for me to hurry and come see. Finally having finished folding the laundry, I started up the stairs with the basket of folded laundry only to find his ‘hurry and come see’ was flowing down the stairs to meet me. My son, standing at the top of the stairs hands on his hips, said, “I told you to hurry and come see.” I learned a costly lesson that day.
How often do we miss something important because we don’t take time to listen or pay attention? I admit that at times I will get so caught up in what I’m doing or what I’m going to say that I fail to hear everything the other person is saying.
How often do we miss the opportunity to share the Good News with a lost one simply because we have been too busy talking instead of listening? Often listening is the key to opening the door to sharing.
