Read: Luke 6:41-42
Lately, my Facebook newsfeed has been filled with pictures of new babies. They must be in fashion, because it seems little pinched faces and toothless grins are all the rage. I can’t help but coo at each one. There is nothing better than holding a freshly delivered bundle of joy. And, oh, that new baby smell! I recall practically drinking in the fragrance of my infants as they nestled into me. It was bliss. This lasted until one day in toddlerhood. My sweet one climbed into my lap after playing outside, and my nose was instantly offended by the unexpected smell of wet dog. When had this happened? I couldn’t believe it. My child stunk! Quickly putting away my gardening tools, I announced, “I think it is time to go in and get cleaned up,” to which my sweaty stink bug instantly agreed, “Yeah, ‘cause you don’t smell good!”
This memory came flooding back as I read these scriptures. It seems many times we are more acutely aware of someone else’s need for a bath than our own. Most of us remedy this problem by viewing baths or showers as a matter of routine maintenance, knowing that if we wait until we think we need one, we may be the last to know. The same is true of repentance. Make a routine of sitting before the Father, soaking in His cleansing power.
Adoration: God is holy, mighty, gracious, and merciful. Spend time declaring your love for Him and expressing your thoughts of praise and worship.
Confession: Ask God to search your heart and reveal any areas of unconfessed sin. Acknowledge these to the Lord and thank Him for His forgiveness.
Thanksgiving: Express your thankfulness to God for the blessings He has given you. When we consider that we deserve punishment because of our sinfulness, and instead God gives to us His love and mercy, our only response should be one of thankfulness.
Supplication: Petition God regarding your family and your ministry. Ask for help and guidance in sharing your Jesus with others and helping others grow in Him. Offer prayers concerning your activities for this day and any special concerns you may have. Intercede on behalf of local, national, and world missions. Pray the Great Commission would be fulfilled and for any special concerns you may have for missions.
