Read: Luke 14:25-35

In today’s world of smartphones and tablet devices, there is a very familiar phrase: “There’s an App for that.”  Apps (short for “software applications”) are efficient little programs that can do all sorts of neat things.  They make our lives more convenient and can provide entertaining distractions.

Is Jesus just another “App” for today’s Christian?  In Luke 26-35, Jesus invites us into His life and death by Faith.  It requires a full commitment to Him and His call.  Nothing can take priority over Him, not family (v. 26) nor material things (v. 33).  A life led by Jesus is marked with sacrifice, suffering, hard work, and inconvenience.  But, it is the only life filled with joy, peace, endurance, and abundance.

Jesus is not just another “App” we simply plug into our lives to provide convenience and nice feelings.  We aren’t called to plan out our life and then figure out where Jesus might fit.  Jesus commands us to count the cost, so that we may understand what must die to our life so that He may live in it (v. 28).  And, we are to dwell in His presence, so that we might live a life of sacrifice for the Glory of the Father.

If you have been saved by Jesus, Praise God!  But, how has He impacted your life today?  How will He impact it tomorrow?  Is He only a metaphorical “App” you interact with when it fits into your life?

Pray:

Adoration: God is holy, mighty, gracious, and merciful. Spend time declaring your love for Him and expressing your thoughts of praise and worship.

Confession: Ask God to search your heart and reveal any areas of unconfessed sin. Acknowledge these to the Lord and thank Him for His forgiveness.

Thanksgiving: Express your thankfulness to God for the blessings He has given you. When we consider that we deserve punishment because of our sinfulness, and instead God gives to us His love and mercy, our only response should be one of thankfulness.

Supplication: Petition God regarding your family and your ministry.  Ask for help and guidance in sharing your Jesus with others and helping others grow in Him.  Offer prayers concerning your activities for this day and any special concerns you may have.  Intercede on behalf of local, national, and world missions.  Pray the Great Commission would be fulfilled and for any special concerns you may have for missions.
