Read:Luke 15:8-10

How many times has a parent been shopping for school clothes with children in tow?  In between rifling through racks of shirts and rows of shoes, a constant scan of the perimeter occurs to be sure the kids are within sight.  When eyes aren’t looking, ears are listening for those little voices.  In the middle of deciding whether this t-shirt goes with these jeans, there is a realization that little Johnny’s voice has been absent.  There are Suzy and Michael, but no Johnny.  The heart begins to race, and a frantic search ensues.

Fear and guilt mix to create such a panic when a child is lost.  But, oh what a relief when little Johnny comes scurrying around the corner!  It becomes all hugs and kisses.  Everyone celebrates.  Like a parent who doesn’t care why a child wanders off, God’s focus is to find that which is so precious to Him.  His desire to hold us in His arms is so great that He made a way for us to find Him.  For every person who accepts the saving Grace of Jesus, the only way to the Father, there is rejoicing and celebrating in Heaven!

Every lost person is precious to God.  Just like that parent enlisted those shoppers to find Johnny, God has enlisted us to help the lost find their way.  In that search are we “sweeping the house and searching carefully” until we find them? (verse 8)

Pray:

Adoration: God is holy, mighty, gracious, and merciful. Spend time declaring your love for Him and expressing your thoughts of praise and worship.

Confession: Ask God to search your heart and reveal any areas of unconfessed sin. Acknowledge these to the Lord and thank Him for His forgiveness.

Thanksgiving: Express your thankfulness to God for the blessings He has given you. When we consider that we deserve punishment because of our sinfulness, and instead God gives to us His love and mercy, our only response should be one of thankfulness.

Supplication: Petition God for growth in your compassion and love toward others.  Offer prayers for your loved ones and others who do not know Jesus and for those in need.  Ask God to use you to tell others about Him and show His love. Offer prayers concerning your activities for this day and any special concerns you have.
