Read Daniel 6

Driving down the highway, viewing streams of sunlight radiating through the clouds always brings my thoughts to my Father in heaven. Those radiant rays of light seem to come from heaven’s portals, and I want to linger in the beauty of God’s creation and worship Him. Often, sunlight beaming through my bedroom window in the early morning has a similar effect. I thank my Father for the day He has made for me to live for Him and serve Him.

I’m reminded of faithful Daniel, kneeling for prayer in his window morning, noon, and night. In those reverent moments of devotion to God, Daniel never imagined he’d one day be in a lion’s den. Nevertheless, it was his disciplined intimacy with God that prepared him to be able to believe God for a miracle - the miracle that shut the lions’ mouths and saved his life.

Being torn from his homeland and family, trained and educated to serve in the king’s court in the Babylonian culture, Daniel daily faced peer pressure and the king’s pressure to abandon his spiritual values and integrity. He grew in wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. God’s favor rested on him, not only because God loved Daniel, but because of his obedience.

What a beautiful lesson for me to learn from Daniel’s life and relationship with God! Lord, teach me to pray like Daniel! Yes, help me to dare to be a Daniel. Help me to obey and honor You as Daniel did.
