Read Colossians 3:17

I look forward to my summer vacation with my family every year.  As the week of the vacation draws near, I always find myself spending time thinking about how great it will be to finally “get away.”  I’m sure we have all experienced the anticipation of an upcoming vacation. The beach, the food, the weather, the time away from work, the fun times with extended family, the rest and relaxation …   The time away from our daily routines is almost always welcomed and most deserved.

However, I often have to remind myself of the importance of spending time with God in the midst of my vacation.  One would think that with all the extra free time and relative lack of responsibility,  finding quiet time to read scripture and pray would be so easy, but sometimes getting out my regular daily routine seems to make it more difficult.

Colossians 3:17 reminds us, “And whatever you do… do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”  I hope that we all have had or will have a truly incredible vacation this summer.  But even more, I hope that we will all take advantage of the time to grow closer to God and give him thanks for all that we have.  Whatever we do, we do it in the name of the Lord Jesus.
