Read Psalm 33:3
"Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy."
I've never been complimented for my ability to sing or play an instrument, but, my shouting is a different story.
You see, I come from a long line of school teachers. They weren't mean; they were just loud ... loud whisperers, loud singers, loud joke tellers, loud shouters. As a cheerleader in high school, I wasn't selected to dance during the pep rallies (rhythm isn't a strength either), but I could get a crowd's attention.
As an adult, I'm still pretty loud. Football and basketball games are some of my favorite places, because you're encouraged to be loud. Church is another favorite place, but "loud" isn't always appropriate. "Sing a new song," yes. "Play skillfully," yes! "Shout for joy," YES!! Great news ... the Psalmist encourages us to shout for joy!
As another New Year begins, let's take the Bible at its word ... those who can sing, sing a new song; those who can play, play skillfully; those who can shout, join me in shouting for joy!!
