Read: Psalm 50

When my husband and I were newly married, I was always looking for ways to cut corners and save a few pennies.  He was convinced that his favorite brand of mouthwash was superior to the others, but I knew that the store brand was very likely the exact same product.  So... one day I bought the store brand mouthwash and poured it into the empty name brand bottle.  I was certain that I was pulling one over on him!

I was wrong.  He took one swig of the imposter mouthwash and spit it right back out!  The label read, “Listerine”, but the contents were far from it.  I hadn’t pulled anything over on my husband

Ever feel like you’re going through the motions of Christianity, but your life isn’t what it really needs to be?  Maybe you sit in church every week and have Bible verses on your Facebook page, but miss out on actually following Christ’s commands?  The Bible tells us, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”  (James 1:22)  We may deceive ourselves for a while, but we never deceive  the all-knowing God.

So ask yourself this week, “Do my actions match up with who I say I am?  Are the contents of my life worthy of the label, “Christian?”

Pray:

Adoration: God is holy, mighty, gracious, and merciful. Spend time declaring your love for Him and expressing your thoughts of praise and worship.

Confession: Ask God to search your heart and reveal any areas of unconfessed sin. Acknowledge these to the Lord and thank Him for His forgiveness.

Thanksgiving: Express your thankfulness to God for the blessings He has given you. When we consider that we deserve punishment because of our sinfulness, and instead God gives to us His love and mercy, our only response should be one of thankfulness.

Supplication: Petition God for growth in your desire to know and please Him.  Ask Him to give you a greater love and commitment to Him.  Ask Him for the grace to glorify Him in your life.  Intercede on behalf of your local church, other churches, evangelism and discipleship ministries and other concerns you may have.  Offer prayers for your activities for this day and any special concerns you might have.
