Read Mark 6

Whether it’s a trip to the doctor’s office, a broken relationship, or stress on the job, we all have fears that we carry like a stone on our shoulders.  We all experience fear.  It’s not just for the emotionally weak.  Life can be absolutely frightening.  We fear the unknown, what we cannot control, and we all fear death.

We may not be able to control the outcome of certain events, but we can choose in Whom to trust.  It’s comforting to know that God not only understands our fears but declares throughout His Word that He is with us no matter the situation.

We see in Mark 6 that even the disciples (who knew Jesus) feared the winds of the seas.  They thought Jesus was a ghost.  It’s just like God, however, to encourage them instead of chastise them for lack of faith.  “It is I.  Don’t be afraid”.  He knows our strengths, our weaknesses, the hairs on our head.  He created us in His image.  He gave His own life so that we may live with Him eternally.  He’s not going to let us fall.

It’s only when we take our eyes off of Him and on our circumstances can fear paralyze us.  Jesus overcame the world, destroyed the works of the Devil, and defeated Death itself.  Fear is a very real emotional state.  It’s not an emotional weakness.  We all fear something.  It’s choosing in Whom to trust when fear sets in.  The Prince of Peace Himself stands patiently and willingly to help us through any circumstance you find yourself.  Listen for his still voice saying, “It is I.  Don’t be afraid.”
