Read Nehemiah 4 and Nehemiah 5

Yesterday my Facebook newsfeed was overloaded with reports of Jerry Falwell, Jr. and his endorsement of Donald Trump for president. It seems that everyone had an opinion of that endorsement, and a need to share it!  According to our current president, we are no longer a Christian nation. Yet, several of the contenders have sought the endorsement of Christian leaders.

Nehemiah was a politician who felt no such need. “I consulted with myself . . .” (Nehemiah 5:7) He knew the truth of God’s word, and needed to consult with no one else. Jesus said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32) Poor Pilate voiced the question many ask, “What is truth?” (John 18:38) Jesus answered that one for us, too. “Your word is truth.” (John 17:17)

Where do you go when faced with situations that are clearly against the truth of God? Facebook? Popular opinion? Friends? Do you know God’s word well enough to need to consult only with yourself? Dust off the Book and start reading. Wield that Sword of the Spirit!
