Read Daniel 5:17-31
Recently, my hairdresser’s 4-year-old son was having to wait at his mom’s salon until his dad could come get him to go to the dentist. Clearly, the dentist was not his favorite thing to do. He had been bribed with the special treat of spending time alone with dad afterwards. Time alone with dad is really special, since there are three boys ranging from 13 to 4, and each has multiple activities and interests. This 4-year-old was regaling all of us with what his special time with dad was going to include, and nobody wanted to leave until they had a chance to see dad’s face when he learned the itinerary.
The little guy was excited about the things he was going to be doing with his dad – everything from going by the fire station (dad’s office) to doing “Space Time” (Face Time) with his grandparents. Then dad arrived and with him, the reality of going to the dentist hit. Gone was the excited little boy. In his place was a frightened little boy, but his wise and loving dad recognized immediately what his child needed. Dad reached down and lifted up his scared child, gave him a big hug and told him that he (dad) would be with him every minute.
Isn’t this exactly what our loving Father tells us over and over again in His word? Doesn’t He tell us time and again to trust Him, to call on Him in our time of need? This is the same God that Daniel trusted to reveal the meaning of Nebuchadnezzar’s dreams, to interpret the writing on the wall for Belshazzar, and Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego trusted to save them from death in the fiery furnace; so, how can we doubt that He will hear us in our times of need?
