Read Daniel 5:17-31
Proverbs, 1 Peter, and James all tell us that God opposes the proud, but shows favor to the humble. And, we see His opposition to the mockers and the prideful in action in Daniel.
Nebuchadnezzar's fall is summarized in Daniel 5:20. He was publicly humbled, "deposed of his royal throne and stripped of his glory." But what's interesting to me is that his son, Belshazzar, didn't learn from his father's fall and repentance (Daniel 5:22).
Pride is a heart hardener, and keeps us from learning from others. Am I learning from others around me - either from their prideful mistakes or their honorable, humble successes?
God has provided many examples of unrighteous living for us to learn from, as well as humble models of believers seeking His kingdom first. Let's be seekers of His will, righteousness, and grace.
