Read Lamentations 3:21-24

So here we are, already a month into 2017. Where did the time go? It seems like yesterday we were welcoming in the new year. In the last days of 2016, I wrote down some goals that I wanted to achieve in 2017. I was reluctant to call them resolutions. Somehow I thought it would be easier to reach for goals than to resolve to do something. I was hopeful that the change in wording would change my mindset and help me achieve success. This year, I told myself, I would set goals that were definitive and obtainable. I would set goals that were good for me, that I would be excited about keeping. But, alas, I have already given up on a few of those goals.

Why does that happen? We start out so enthusiastically, yet before we know it, we have ditched our well-laid-out plans for something else. Our goals – and our resolutions – are abandoned. We sigh and tell ourselves that we’ll do better when the next new year rolls around.

The good news is that we don’t have to wait until 2018 to have a fresh start. God’s mercies are new every morning. That means He gives us a brand new, clean slate each and every time we ask him. Every morning we can wake up knowing that we can live that day for Christ. Each day is a new opportunity for us to serve in growing God’s kingdom.

Let’s reach for kingdom goals. Starting today.
