Read: Matthew 6:24-33

Some years ago, when our children were small, our family was placed in a situation where it became difficult to find the very essentials necessary for a family to survive. So as the provider of my family, I began to store up food as supplies became available, cooking oil, sugar, canned goods, pasta, meat. I had accumulated enough food for our family to last us for months, without even leaving our home. However, the political situation became so dangerous that we had to leave the country - with only the small amount of possessions we had in our suitcases. Not only were we leaving all of our “worldly possessions,” but all of that food I had stored away!

These words from our Lord had so much more meaning for me after that experience. Two years later, after the political climate changed, we were able to return home. All of our possessions had been sold, but because of the dollar exchange, we were able to replace all we had lost and then some.  And all that food I had stored away? I’m sure that the Lord gave it to those that needed it worse than we did.

Verse 33 says: “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need”. (NLT)

Pray:

Adoration: God is holy, mighty, gracious, and merciful. Spend time declaring your love for Him and expressing your thoughts of praise and worship.

Confession: Ask God to search your heart and reveal any areas of unconfessed sin. Acknowledge these to the Lord and thank Him for His forgiveness.

Thanksgiving: Express your thankfulness to God for the blessings He has given you. When we consider that we deserve punishment because of our sinfulness, and instead God gives to us His love and mercy, our only response should be one of thankfulness.

Supplication: Petition God for growth in your character and personal discipline, and for physical health and strength.  Ask for Him to empower you for spiritual warfare against the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil.  Ask for help regarding your activities of the day and other concerns you have.  Intercede for the poor and hungry, the oppressed and persecuted, and those in control of world resources.  Offer prayers for peace among the nations and current events and concerns.
