Read 1 Timothy 4:8
A few weekends ago our halls and fields were filled with young men. Each one was here because he wanted to hone his football skills. For one brief weekend, they were comrades. In a few short weeks, they will be opponents, seeking to best each other.
Some of their time was spent learning and practicing moves that will give them an edge against the other teams they will meet this fall. Some of their time was spent gathered around a table with a godly man whose goal was much higher. That godly man sought to model Jesus for the boys at his table. He ate with them, talked football with them, and talked “Jesus” with them.
That Sunday morning I wept as I saw entire rows emptying. Oh, I’m sure some of those boys were just following the one in front of him. But, if even a small percentage of them were actually choosing to surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, if even a small percentage of them were choosing to practice forgiveness, their world will change, “for the present life and also for the life to come.”
Won’t you join me in praying for a bountiful harvest? Ask for the first name of just one young man and commit to pray for him every day.
