Read1 Corinthians 15:20-23

Webster’s dictionary defines ‘promise’ as, “a statement telling someone that you will definitely do something or that something will definitely happen.”  I am sure at some point we have all been let down or disappointed when someone has failed to keep his/her promise to us. Unfortunately, I am quite sure we have all been guilty of not keeping our promises to others at some point, as well.  Sometimes, despite our best intentions, we are unable to fulfill the promises we have made.

However, scripture is full of promises God has made to His people.  And guess what? God keeps His promises!  We serve a holy, righteous, and perfect God whose character does not change and whose promises are true … forever.

Perhaps God’s greatest promise is His promise of the cross and Christ’s resurrection.  In 1 Corinthians 15 we are reminded of what our lives would look like without Christ’s death and resurrection. “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.” (1 Corinthians 15:17) The good news is that “Christ has indeed been raised from the dead … so in Christ all will be made alive.” (1 Corinthians 15:20,22) In fact, that is not just good news, but great news!  Let us all take time to reflect on what our lives and hope for eternity would look like without God’s gift of Christ, His death, and His resurrection. Then let us all rejoice in the victory God has promised us through Jesus Christ.

Pray:

Adoration: God is holy, mighty, gracious, and merciful. Spend time declaring your love for Him and expressing your thoughts of praise and worship.

Confession: Ask God to search your heart and reveal any areas of unconfessed sin. Acknowledge these to the Lord and thank Him for His forgiveness.

Thanksgiving: Express your thankfulness to God for the blessings He has given you. When we consider that we deserve punishment because of our sinfulness, and instead God gives to us His love and mercy, our only response should be one of thankfulness.

Supplication: Petition God to help you be a faithful steward of your time, talents, possessions, and relationships.  Offer prayers concerning your activities for this day and any special concerns you have.  Intercede for your local, state, and national governments.  Pray for spiritual revival in the nation and offer prayers regarding any current events and concerns.
