Read: Genesis 12:1-3
In Genesis 12:1-3, we see God call Abram out of his homeland, while promising him blessings in the future. I can’t imagine what Abram must have felt upon first hearing God’s call. I can just see him saying, “You want me to do what!?!?” Abram was 75 years old and still without children when he received this call. However, this did not keep Abram from obeying God. Abram was not a perfect person, but he sought God’s call and had faith that God was in control. So did God keep his promises to Abram? “I will make you into a great nation,” check. “I will make your name great,” check. “I will bless those who bless you and whoever curses you I will curse,” check and check. “And all peoples on earth will be blessed through you,” check.
These verses not only remind us of the great work God did through Abram because of his faith and obedience, but also serve as great encouragement for Christians today. God speaks to us. We may not always be actively listening for Him or willing to obey His call, but He is there, and He is speaking. When God speaks, He expects and rewards obedience. My hope is that we will all take time to listen for God’s call and instructions for our lives today. Even more so I pray that we have the faith to obey Him when He calls.
Adoration: God is holy, mighty, gracious, and merciful. Spend time declaring your love for Him and expressing your thoughts of praise and worship.
Confession: Ask God to search your heart and reveal any areas of unconfessed sin. Acknowledge these to the Lord and thank Him for His forgiveness.
Thanksgiving: Express your thankfulness to God for the blessings He has given you. When we consider that we deserve punishment because of our sinfulness, and instead God gives to us His love and mercy, our only response should be one of thankfulness.
Supplication: Petition God regarding your family and your ministry. Ask for help and guidance in sharing your Jesus with others and helping others grow in Him. Offer prayers concerning your activities for this day and any special concerns you may have. Intercede on behalf of local, national, and world missions. Pray the Great Commission would be fulfilled and for any special concerns you may have for missions.
